Abstract

We treated 42 patients with 43 tibial plateau fractures, 22 (51,16 %) of them by conservative, 21 (48,84 %) of them by surgical methods at Cumhuriyet University Medical School Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology Clinic between January 1993 and May 1999. 32 (76,19 %) patients were male and 10 (23,81 %) were female. The mean age of the patients was 44,10 years. The functionel, clinical and radiologiacal results were evaluated according to Hohl and Luck’s scores. The functional and clinical results were excellent in 16 patients (72,12 %) and good in 5 (22,75 %) in conservative group. And the radiologiacal results were excellent in 17 patients (77,27 %), good in 3 (14,28 %) and moderate at 2 (9,10 %) in the same group. The functional and clinical results were excellent in 14 patients (66,67 %), good in 4 (19,05 %) and The radiologiacal results were excellent in 15 patients (71,43 %), good 4 (19,05 %) and moderate in 2 (9,52 %) in the same group.3 (75,0 %) excellent and 1 (25.0 %) good result obtained in 4 patients of whom were reducted by arthroscopic technique. The radiological results were excellent at 2 patients (50,0 %) and good at 2 (50,0 %) inthe same last group. Finally, we agreed that conservative methods are the first choice in tibia plateau fractures, if surgical method must be used, it’s better to try artroscopy firstly, if it’s impossible then we can try classic surgical methods.
