Abstract

Introduction: To explore lateral discoidal menisceal tears and evaluate their arthroscopic treatment results.
Patients and methods: Fourteen (%2.8) lateral discoid meniscus case encountered in 503 arthroscopic evaluation in our clinic between November 1998 - November 2002 were examined. Twelve of these lateral discoid meniscus cases were classified as incomplet while two of them were complete. None of them was in Wrisberg type.
Results: A ccording to the postoperative Lysholm and Ikeuchi criteria evaluation, in six patients with Lysholm scoring and in seven patients with Ikeuchi scoring, excellent results gained.
Discussion: As in many inside knee patologies arthroscopy is the most reliable method and has the least morbidity and complication rate in evaluating and treating lateral discoid menisci. In treatment of degenerated or intact but mechanically symptomatic lateral discoid meniscus, partial menisectomy must be thought prior to other treatment methods.
